A century of Canadian curling history will be celebrated when Saskatoon hosts the 2027 Montana’s Brier, presented by AGI.
The 100th anniversary of the first Canadian men’s curling championship will be held at SaskTel Centre from Feb. 26 – March 7, 2027, it was announced today by Curling Canada.
“The Montana’s Brier is the epitome of Canadiana. What started as a modest event of goodwill and celebration of the sport of curling has evolved into one of the most recognizable properties in Canadian sport,” said Curling Canada CEO and three-time Montana’s Brier champion Nolan Thiessen. “It reflects our values of teamwork and camaraderie without sacrificing the tension of competition at the highest level and the remarkable feats of the athletes.

“The Montana’s Brier has evolved in format over the years, but it still continues to celebrate every province and territory and brings together athletes and fans from coast-to-coast-to-coast. The 2027 edition, the 100th anniversary of the first Brier, is going to be a special celebration of our past, present and future.”
The inaugural Montana’s Brier was hosted in Toronto from March 1-3, 1927, featuring eight teams and won by Nova Scotia’s Team Murray MacNeill.
A hundred years later, the sport has significantly changed. However, its core values remain consistent. These values will be showcased when Saskatoon hosts the Canadian men’s championship for the seventh time, placing it third in frequency after Toronto (14 times) and Calgary (eight times).
“Hosting the 100th anniversary of the Brier is an exciting opportunity for our province,” Minister Responsible for Tourism Saskatchewan Alana Ross said. “Curling is Saskatchewan’s official sport, and our province has a proud legacy of producing champions. This milestone event will showcase Saskatchewan’s unique hospitality through vibrant visitor experiences that strengthen our economy.
Tickets will go on sale in spring 2026, and fans are invited to be part of the monumental milestone in Canadian curling’s history. The championship will include special events and displays to celebrate the Montana’s Brier’s 100-year history.

“Saskatoon is thrilled to host the 100th anniversary of the Montana’s Brier — a landmark moment in one of Canada’s most beloved sporting traditions,” said Saskatoon Mayor Cynthia Block. “Curling has always been about more than competition; it’s about community, connection, and pride. Here in Saskatoon, those values run deep. We can’t wait to welcome fans and athletes from every corner of the country to experience our legendary hospitality, our spirited crowds, and our shared love for the roaring game.”
It is not the first time Saskatoon has hosted the Montana’s Brier for a major milestone. In 2004, the city hosted the 75th Canadian men’s championship, a memorable event won by Nova Scotia’s Team Mark Dacey. Saskatoon has also hosted the event in 1946, which was won by Alberta’s Team Billy Rose after a three-year hiatus due to World War II. Other years include 1965, won by Manitoba’s Team Terry Braunstein; 1989, won by Alberta’s Team Pat Ryan; 2000, won by British Columbia’s Team Greg McAulay; and 2012, won by Ontario’s Team Glenn Howard.
The venue also hosted the 1991 Scotties Tournament of Hearts, won by British Columbia’s Team Julie Skinner (n. Sutton).
“We are incredibly honoured and proud that Saskatoon has been chosen to host the 100th anniversary edition of the Montana’s Brier. This milestone championship reflects exactly what makes our city extraordinary — our spirit of collaboration and the pride we take in welcoming the world,” said Stephanie Pocha, Chief Executive Officer of Discover Saskatoon. “Through Discover Saskatoon’s leadership and the partnership of Saskatoon Destination Marketing Hotels, our civic and provincial partners, and our business community, we are ready to deliver a world-class experience for athletes, fans, and visitors alike. From our incredible neighbourhoods, remarkable volunteers, to our world-class culinary scene, the 2027 Montana’s Brier will showcase Saskatoon’s warmth, hospitality, and passion for sport. This event will leave a lasting legacy of connection, pride, and celebration under our living skies.”
SaskTel Centre is home to the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades, the Saskatchewan Rush of the National Lacrosse League, and the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League. In 2021, the venue hosted the Canadian Curling Trials, where Team Brad Gushue and Team Jennifer Jones each earned the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
“On behalf of the Chiefs of the Saskatoon Tribal Council and the First Nations of Treaty 6 Territory, I extend a warm welcome to all athletes, visitors, and fans joining us for the 100th anniversary of the Brier,” said Tribal Chief Mark Arcand, Saskatoon Tribal Council. “This historic event is taking place on the lands and waters that have sustained our peoples since time immemorial. We are proud to share the vibrancy of our First Nations culture, languages, and ways of life with the world as we gather in the spirit of respect, friendship, and celebration. May this Brier be a moment of unity honouring the past, embracing the present, and curling together toward a strong and inclusive future.”
Montana’s BBQ & Bar will continue in its fourth year as the title sponsor of the event. This partnership has expanded to include the upcoming 2025 Montana’s Canadian Curling Trials, presented by Connect Hearing. That event will determine the men’s and women’s teams to be nominated to represent Canada at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.
“We are honoured to announce the 2027 Montana’s Brier will be hosted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Curling is deeply woven into the fabric of Canadian sport, and we see this event as more than a competition; it’s a celebration of communities, athletic excellence, and Canadian tradition,” said Mark Sozanski, Chief Operating Officer, Montana’s BBQ & Bar.

“We look forward to collaborating with Curling Canada and the host committee to deliver an event truly spectacular for fans across Canada. We are proud to play a part in this milestone moment for the Saskatoon community, and we’re excited to stand alongside volunteers, partners, and passionate curling fans to make it unforgettable,” said Dina Ricco, Head of Marketing, Montana’s BBQ & Bar.
Saskatchewan has hosted the Montana’s Brier 12 times in both Saskatoon and Regina. The most recent was in 2024, when Canada’s Team Gushue defeated Saskatchewan’s Team Mike McEwen in the final.
“There’s truly no better place to mark 100 years of curling history than here in Saskatchewan,” said CURLSASK Executive Director Steve Turner. “Curling isn’t just our province’s official sport; it’s a part of our identity. All of us at CURLSASK are thrilled to help bring this milestone event to life, and we’re committed to making it unforgettable for curling fans across the country.”
Teams from Saskatchewan have won the Canadian men’s championship seven times. The last time the prairie province hoisted the Tankard trophy was in 1980 with the Saskatoon-based team of Rick Folk, Ron Mills, Tom Wilson, and Jim Wilson. The unit also won the world championship that year.
“It’s a tremendous honour to be one of the few Canadians to have won a Brier, and that significance has only grown for me over the years. There is nothing like this event anywhere else in the world,” said Jim Wilson, a proud Saskatoon resident and lead on Team Folk’s Canadian Curling Hall of Fame and Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame-inducted team. “Hosting this milestone event in my hometown makes it even more special. I am incredibly proud that Saskatoon and Saskatchewan get to welcome curling fans from across the country, and I look forward to celebrating 100 years of our sport’s remarkable history right here next year.”
The team that wins the 2027 Montana’s Brier will have the opportunity to represent Canada a few weeks later at the 2027 World Men’s Curling Championship, which will be hosted in Canada.
“We are thrilled and honoured to welcome the 2027 Montana’s Brier to Saskatoon, marking the 100th anniversary of this amazing event. It’s a privilege for our city to play host to such a historic milestone, celebrating a century of curling, community, and the spirit of competition,” said host committee co-chair Michael Leier. “As curling is Saskatchewan’s provincial sport, this occasion holds special significance for our province. We look forward to creating unforgettable memories for everyone and showcasing Saskatoon’s warmth and hospitality to fans and participants alike.”
